Movie Review..#Tried Again

Encapsulating the very essence of life - "existence for THE purpose", the movie "Ship of Theseus", very beautifully, promotes the noble act of - "Organ Donation". As the movie title  means  - a paradox that raises the question of whether an object which has had all its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object - movie revolves around three characters who have undergone organ transplant and their life before and after it.

Curtain raiser story is about a beautiful girl who lost her eyesight to a corneal infection, but captures amazing pictures in her DSLR by listening to the sounds in the vicinity. There is a scene, where a she gets into a sweet arguement with her guy, was amusing because of the dialogue delivery and timing. Moreover, the screenplay itself depicted a lot many feelings and details that could not have been told better, even by dialogues. Story ends with her eyesight back but still many voids in her life.

Second story has a saint as protagonist, who works for animal rights against ill-treatment by pharma research industry. A scene in which a caterpillar crawls alive on a floor, where it had umpteen escapes from getting trampled, was shot very meaningfully. Also, the dialogues are very amusing - "an enlightened e-mail is one which has no ATTACHMENTS". The story paces up when Saint opts for "fast unto death" after he gets "liver cirrhosis" but ends up getting cured by liver transplant with the aid of same medicines he was opposing production of. The paradigm shift from his "fast unto death" to his "yes" on treatment is what keeps the audience spell bound.

Closing story is about a money-minded man who has had kidney transplant. He develops a soft corner for the have-nots and exploited of the society, after he gets to know about an organ smuggling case. He thrives for justice in the same case but ends up with bitter realities of life. His grandmother stands as beacon throughout, consoling and guiding him.

With all the three stories connecting logically in the climax, the audience is kept on edge till the end. The climax being open ended, is a food FOR thought.

Movie Review #amateur#fan

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy – A stupendous personification of the original protagonist from the creative classic Byomkesh Bakshy “Satyanweshi” (Seeker of truth) by Shardindu Bandopadhyay. A crime thriller plotted on the land of Bengal of pre-independence eraAnother unique, yet a typical 'his type' canvas from 'the' Dibakar Banerjee,  after Oye lucky lucky oye, Khosla ka ghosla, Love, sex aur Dhokha and Shanghaai!

Ever-lingering background score and music, as it has, multiplies the thrilling experience that the story and the screenplay both create! Music, if this creative, indeed has to be a cocktail – mix from various top-notchs including the Gangs of Wassepur Fame Sneha Khanwalkar.Various elements in the movie, magnify the beauty of the penned character / story – be it the well thought-chosen cast, location / setup, costumes. Sushant Singh proves his mettle as a well-homeworked actor in every shot. Supporting cast is no far-behind.

Some sequences are so very enticing – be it the first sequence which begins with a brutal killing by an anonymous character, thereby seeding-in the plot suspense..or the climax sequence which is a fight sequence wherein the killer in the story manages to escape, from getting murdered, giving way to the sequel of the the movie! And of course, the way this new Indian Hero has been pitched and filmed by Dibakar Banerjee and team, audience is definitely expecting a prequel potraying the early life of this Truth seeker!!

Though some of the viewers might find it predictable, but even to them, the way film has been weaved around the plot, will appeal appealingly!

Many thanks to Dibakar Banerjee, for making us live the mystery and thrill and of course to the first hand creator – Shardindu Bandopadhyay,  for giving us our very own 'desi' Sherlock Holmes!
