A very dear friend of mine got injured recently. Almost-Broken foot. Nothing descriptive - A beauty, this beast and oops - mis-step ;)
So, as we were planning to goto Doctor's this eve ( I almost scared him to see a doc lest I would do "something" to him ) - his very love for doctors and so called medical science got its way - "They do nothing. What can they do?! They will give n-many medicines and suggestions - all for no good".
I was listening carefully - you better listen to an angry insane friend who is injured or else, he will make you the same - angry, insane, injured :P
So, as I was barely listening to him - I recalled few similar conversations - where Doctors and Medical Science - specifically in India - were accused, abused and abhorred. Why?! I mean we all have our own experiences and reasons to do so. But I think it this way.
In a country where self-medication is the most prevalent one;
where hygiene is the last thing which is taken care of in day-to-day life; where parallel remedy is preached and practiced (Alopathy, Ayurvedic, Homeopathy and what not);
where prescription is preserved and the precaution list is dumped off; where a pocket-friendly treatment is doubted lot more than an expensive one;
where half of the market is overflowing with medicines that are banned in most part of the world – In such a world –
an Indian Doctor dares to be a doctor (I skipped the frustration at the personal level – the 'PRE' part of becoming a doctor – pre-medical exams, donations as medical college entrance fees, years of hardwork and actual studies etc.; No doubt why most of us are engineers :P);
he / she takes the pain of treating a patient whom they know – must have set back home for atleast 2-3 days, depending upon the ailment intensity, waiting for ailment to get worse; along with of course – the neem hakeem treatment at home; is not going to follow half of the instructions / precautions to be taken care while the treatment goes-on; in short – is gonna make every possible effort of making the treatment not-work.
In such a world - an Indian Doctor becomes a doctor and puts all possible efforts to treat the patient in the best possible way!!
So while we all have experiences - good or bad - one thing we all must do is to respect this life saving profession and these life giving professionals.
PS : I am a patriot and in no way intend to grey-potray the people or the medical culture. This blog is just an opinion and compilation of experiences :P
